Patrick Downey has been researching New York gangsters for twenty years and is the author of three books. Gangster City: The History of the New York Underworld 1900-1935, Bad Seeds in the Big Apple: Bandits, Killers & Chaos in New York City 1920-1940 and Legs Diamond: Gangster.

In addition to his books Patrick has also written for local area newspapers, spoken about gangsters at the Museum of New York City and the Lower Eastside Tenement Museum and he leads an occasional walking tour.
